DEVELOPMENT STORY
Joint development of the World’s best sewing scissors began in 2017 with Mr. Nobuki Hizume, who was awarded the French National Order of the Best Craftsman for his sophisticated skills of creation of hat and head piece in 2019.
Realizing the ultimate functional beauty of scissors was not an easy way even by more than the 40 years of experience KAI has gained through producing the scissors for apparel industry and other manufacturing industries.
For the handle, we have thoroughly pursued a new handle design that follows the hand perfectly without being bound by the existing scissors design.
For the blade, we incorporated knowledge not only from sewing scissors but also from hairdressing scissors in order to achieve the optimal cutting ability for each application.
More than 17 versions of prototypes and 8 years of development, ō is finally came to light.
NOBUKI HIZUME
Hat & Headpiece Designer
After graduating at the top of class from Bunka Fashion College in 2004, he moved to France. After collaborating with many Parisian haute couture brands, he became the first Japanese to be awarded the “Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF)” in the hat-making category, in May 2019.
In the same year, he launched the hat brand “ HIZUME “ from 2020 S/S season.
For the FW22 and FW23 LOEWE collections, he is also challenging himself to make clothes using traditional hat-making techniques.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Sewing scissors that were jointly developed with Mr. Nobuki Hizume, a world-renowned hat designer who was awarded the M.O.F. in France, the equivalent of Japan’s Living National Treasure, in order to achieve the world’s highest level of sharpness.
KAI CORPORATION, which has been producing scissors used in the apparel industry and other manufacturing sites for more than 40 years, realized a sharpness that meets Mr. Hizume’s high demands after more than 8 years of development. 6 pcs set in a wooden case made of chestnut wood from Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
