Changing craftsmanship from a management point of view

Vietnam’s economic growth is fueled not only by local craftsmen but also by globally-oriented business leaders. Tam is one such business leader. She works as a section manager for KAI Vietnam. She majored in mechanical engineering at Hanoi University’s School of Science and Technology where she studied maintenance and machine design. At KAI Vietnam, she gained experience as a maintenance worker and when she became the manager of KAI Vietnam’s packaging department, she received specialized training at KAI’s factory headquarters in Seki, Japan. She was surprised to learn that more than 50 processes support production and that these processes must be corrected daily. After returning to Vietnam, she found that it was very difficult to apply what she had learned in Japan. Nevertheless, she felt that the importance of the teamwork that she experienced in Japan was beneficial to her. In order to produce more 10,000 KAI products, it is necessary to create trust and value of the brand with the whole team. Teamwork, like that seen in KAI’s factories in Japan, is the necessary foundation for making good quality products in Vietnam.
